BLK FRI at CENTRE + ATAMA

Here's what I liked most about the Black Friday special at Centre + Atama…I didn't have to wake up early. The shop opened at 11 o'clock, roughly an hour after they had originally anticipated. That was okay with me, because it gave me an opportunity to wander around, drink coffee, and meet up with a few people.

Speaking of a few people, I met one of my newest supporters, Courtney. Courtney had organized a Facebook event for Atama, and we met up at the shop. He is a huge supporter of a lot fresh brands, including The Good Child! Thanks, Courtney!

Walking into the new, open space at Centre was exciting.

The space was better fit for Centre's diverse collection of apparel - t-shirts, wovens, outerwear/jackets, Snaphats, sneaker chains, Good Wood, Nooka, G-shock, and sneakers, sneakers, sneakers.

I bought a new pair of TOMS more suitable for the winter weather.

I also copped the new Centre t-shirt (but in red). Great design, Kiddrae254!

Upstairs in Centre, Atama reigned. TOYS.

Now, I was good and only bought one toy. The Simpsons by Kid Robot. Guess which character I got? Pffft, no surprise...Lisa, the GOOD child in the family.

Actually, I was extra good and did my Atama homework. I filled out the flier correctly to receive 20% off! BAM!

Before leaving for the day, I ran into another one of my supporters, Hugo Juarez. Hugo has his own self-titled clothing line. I met him at the Johnny Cupcakes Suitcase Tour last April. He's a cool kid and is always at the best events. Check out his clothing (he even does special shipping offers)!

Big ups to Kiddrae254 and all the crew at Centre + Atama for their new stores.

Their all-in-one shop is going to be a killer space for events and happenings in Dallas. Speaking of that…keep your eyes and ears open for news on The Good Child Series 1 Release Party

ATAMA

As some of you already know, there is a new shop, brought to you by the new + expanded CENTRE, coming to Mockingbird Station in Dallas, TX. Trust me - anything brought to you by Kiddrae254 and the gang at CENTRE is worth your dime.
ATAMA, a vinyl toy shop, will have it's grand opening event on 11.26.10. The time of the opening has yet to be posted, but it looks like it will be at noon, as Centre and Atama will both open at noon on the regular. ATAMA has been getting loads of product in during the last month, including Kid Robot, tokidoki, and much more. Check out some of their event fliers below!

There is a special offer only available to ATAMA followers on their Twitter.

I've been so hyped about ATAMA that I even got my holiday travel dates mixed up and thought I was going to miss their grand opening on 11.26 (but, my flight is 12.26, a month out…even then, it's actually 12.27). I haven't been this excited about shopping in Dallas since I found Centre and Adikt Footwear. I will definitely be there this Friday, blowin' money, taking photos, and making new friends. I might even give out a free shirt or two. Speaking of shirts and vinyl toys…

Here is a SUPER sneak preview of what's to come for The Good Child in 2011, the Good Dunny:

This t-shirt will be available with the Series 1 release coming up early next year. Keep a look out here, the official site, the online shop, the Twitter, and Facebook for more sneak previews, free goodies, and the latest news on The Good Child!
See you at ATAMA this Friday!

Candlelight Walk on Henderson RECAP!

Last night, I walked around on Henderson Ave. in Dallas, TX to partake in the 19th annual Candlelight Walk on Henderson. Wow, 19 years and this was my first time to go! Henderson Ave. is on the east side of Central Expressway (the west side of the street is Knox) and it is a happenin' place; I go out there at least once a week to visit Vynsie, Derek, and Jully at We Are 1976, to grab some gelato at Natsumi, have a glass of wine at Veritas, or admire furniture at Again & Again. Phew! That's quite a lot of options, and that's not all.

Anyway, I parked near We Are 1976 and dropped in there first. I grabbed a couple of small goodies, mingled, and took some photos!

My Maverick Story

Today, I took part in Marcus Troy's Maverick Project.

The Maverick project is in relation to Nike Sportswear's Fall/Winter collection and their source for inspiration (their very own Mavericks). Check out my story, along with other inspiring stories from incredible individuals, on Marcus' website. Also, check out the dope Destroyer jacket on the Nike Sportswear website!

I told my story, now tell yours!

Always coming up ®,

There are only fifteen shirts left, so get one while you can! The next round of shirts will not be available until the Series I: 2011 release!

Artopia Recap + Good People + THE FIRST GOOD T-SHIRT!

Last night, I attended the Dallas Observer's Artopia at Victory Park Lane. SO many people were in attendance, including the artists themselves. For a measly donation of $12.50 to the Mastermind Awards(I caught the Two'fer Tuesday discount!) the ticket was definitely worth the money. Not only did I get to mingle with some of Dallas' finest artists, but I also got to dine on great sushi snacks and chardonnay! I met some great people last night, and eight of them were lucky enough to receive the very first ever The Good Child t-shirt! This t-shirt will be available to order online tomorrow! There are only sixteen left, so get one while you can. See what the t-shirt looks like in REALITY below!

These two guys could really dance! I gave them each a t-shirt, because they were not afraid to bust a move and dance, even if they were being totally silly. Thanks, guys!

I also gave out a t-shirt to Connor of Magnificent Beard, a screen printing duo here in Dallas, TX. They made this AWESOME print for FREE for the special event. They have some great illustrative skills and I look forward to seeing more of their work. Thanks, bearded dudes!

Of course, I ran into THE Fur Face Boy himself, accompanied by Fur Face Angel. I gave Fur Face Boy a t-shirt, because he has been an obvious hero and also one of the very first supporters of The Good Child. Big ups to him for all his success with his brand. I am always stoked to see what crazy idea he comes up with next! Thanks, Fur Face Boy!
Speaking of Fur Face Boy, I ran into his TOP supporter, Ericka. How could I not give her a t-shirt? Ericka was super nice and chill - I even promised her a Medium (I ran out of her size on-hand) if she finds me online! That brings the exclusive shirt count down to fifteen!

I gave my new friend, Niko, a t-shirt, too. He is super cool and funny. I had a rad time chatting with him and people watching. He also introduced me to one of his friends with the Dallas Observer. Maybe, you'll see us together in the Observer's Artopia photo recaps!

As the night went on, I continued to have the time of my life and I handed out my last two t-shirts to two Fossil, Inc. designers! Why not, right? I want to thank everyone for showing such great enthusiasm about The Good Child and just a reminder that Series I will pop up early next year and, yes, there will be a release party! Stay tuned!

P.S.

ran out of beautiful stickers last night (and started passing out crappy ones), but you can still grab some for free at We Are 1976, Centre, and Good Records (I think!). I reordered some bigger and better stickers today, so don't worry if you can't find any out there, because the new ones will be in soon enough!

Good Packaging

This week, I have been researching a lot of different options for packaging (I even checked out the killer custom tissue paper). I am a designer, so the first thing I look at when I receive a mail piece is the packaging - BUT, I still throw that stuff away right after opening, unless it's totally worthy of shelving. Do you? I thought so.

Thus, I have decided, 'Pffft, no plastic bags here,' and I am going with 98% recyclable materials! All The Good Child merchandise will be shipped in brown butcher paper and tied with twine. This type of packaging is emotional and authentic. Also, you can rip right into it and not feel bad, because you can recycle the remains.

The best part? You'll always know when your The Good Child product arrives, because it will be 100% distinguishable…

In other news, the woven labels arrive this afternoon, which only means one thing…THE FIRST EVER THE GOOD CHILD T-SHIRT GOES ON THE MARKET NEXT WEEK. This style is super limited to only 24 t-shirts (I took one). This style is a preview to what is to come in the Series 1: 2011 release (teasers up soon). I will be giving away a few of these shirts for FREE at Artopia tomorrow, so look out for me in the crowd.

In other news...it's time for breakfastSee you tomorrow at Artopia!

Artopia!

This Saturday, from 8-11PM, the Dallas Observer hosts Artopia 2010. There, Dallas will be repping some of its finest in culture, fashion, food, art, and music - including this week's Random Hero who will be doing a special event. You'll find the rest of Dallas' finest roaming the crowd - participating, mingling, and eating (yummm). Art is being curated by The Public Trust's Brian Gibb, so you know it's going to be good. If you guys missed out on Red On Greenville's Pop Shop, now is your chance to catch up!

I will be in attendance and I will be giving out some FREE The Good Child stickers and maybe, just maybe something BIG. I'll be the one with the Canon (oh, wait, you have one, too?) and the backpack. You know what, forget it - I'll find you!

See you out there!

I Will Always Be The Good Child

Happy Birthday, Dad

Today is my Dad's 71st birthday. I don't know about you guys, but 71 years is quite a life to have lived. My dad has raced his Carrera, flown airplanes, fathered six kids (and taught us all to fly fish), earned his PhD, and mythologically once hunted dinosaurs.

Here's - cheers - to the man who let me eat ice cream before dinner. Happy birthday, Dad.

Really Nice People

As some of you know, this week I went around Dallas and left some free stickers at a few of my favorite shops. First, (and in no particular order), I stopped by Centre. Why? Centre is my favorite shop in the metroplex to find sneakers, t-shirts, and accessories like this. The owner of Centre, Hance (Kiddrae254) is mad dope and has always been a supporter of me, even before he knew me as The Good Child. Hance set up the free stickers right by the register, so make sure you get one!

Another shop I visited was Good Records. Now, if you never buy or listen to music offline, you might not know Good Records. Good Records is one of the only shops left in Dallas that sells physical records (yeah, vinyl) and CDs. They also host a helluvalot of in-store shows, including Dallas native Erykah Badu. Chris Penn, the manager of Good Records, doesn't care who leaves what on their mantel by the entrance, so I left a stack of The Good Child stickers there. Being the Good Child I am, I even cleaned up their mantel of fliers so everyone has a better shot at getting recognized!

Lastly, I stopped by We Are 1976. This relatively new and totally fun shop is run by Vynsie, Derek, and Jully. Those. Guys. Rock. I found We Are 1976 when Johnny Cupcakes rolled through for his Back to Basics Suitcase Tour back in April. Actually, I found them a couple of weeks prior to the JC event, because my design professor at the time had informed us that Vynsie is one of her former students. Either way, now I'm in their shop about once a week. Sometimes, I don't even buy anything - it's still worth my time; I at least purchase a Japanese soda, chat with Vynsie, and roam the endless supply of colorful, playful, and creative products they carry in the store. You have to check this place out, especially for holiday shopping! Vynsie, like Hance, set up The Good Child stickers by the register, so make sure to grab one (or two, or three) as you check out!

Thank you to Hance, Chris, and Vynsie (+ crew) for being so…how should I put this…for being so, 'Hell yeah!' and 'Why not?' about The Good Child Stickers. I've been long time fans of your shops, and I appreciate you sharing my free stickers with other fans of yours! I'll be back in your shops again soon.

As for The Good Child fans -- what are you still reading this for? Go get some free stickers!
